We are currently offering a testing method for the determination of Patulin and HMF in various fruit juices. This method is particularly suitable for apple juice and cider. There is now considerable interest in the US for screening of Patulin in apple juice, and cider due to the health risks of Patulin consumption. This especially applies to producers selling to nationwide vendors and the community of organic growers/distributors. Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by certain species of Penicillium, Aspergillus , and Byssochylamys molds that may grow on a variety of foods including fruit, grains and cheese. A natural contaminant, Patulin appears to occur mainly in apples and apple products. According the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA), it has been linked to a range of adverse effects in experiments on animals - it is a mutagen, immunotoxic and causes effects in the developing fetus.
We utilize a proprietary Solid Phase Extraction and then detection by HPLC/UV/VIS. The method is robust and offers a detection level of 20 ppb. This is well below the generally accepted European Union action level of 50 ppb. This method is far more environmentally friendly than current methodology due to the limited use of organic solvents. Even cloudy ciders can be effectively analyzed by our method. We offer rapid turnaround times, and customized reporting options that can meet any client's needs. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
This gives us the 'juice' to formulate leading edge analysis to produce each client's desired end results. |
